Presumably because they (CIA/FBI/etc.) won't let you?. I would think that there isn't a better way to establish a contact network than through "ex"-employees operating in different sectors of society.

Well, I'm sorry to say that the deal was struck already and it doesn't matter your feelings on the subject. I honestly abhor it as anything else feminist but I can't do anything about it, so you are incorrect in that I agreed to this deal.
Notice I'm only saying how it is, I'm not prescribing or advocating here.
If you don't agree to the deal that is fine and your right, but recognize that it will be difficult if not impossible to void as it was made by society at large and a single individual won't affect it.

Isn't being demonized and being in the bottom of the totem pole mean being unrepresented (and even being openly antagonized)? after all, it's not like there will be a moment in time when there isn't something than a prioritized group will want/need, that she can point to and use as an excuse for why she doesn't attend to the white devils needs?.
Functionally it looks to me as the same as being unrepresented, but with a dangling carrot forever out of reach.

now compare that to anime, that at that time was much less mainstream (I would posit unknown to the general western population above 30) and in the west lacked stories that could be interpreted as the basis for the Doomer cult centered on AI. As for your observations of The Terminator, I will just posit that, that is the number 1 franchise the mayority of people think of when Killer AI is mentioned, and Skynet when adversarial AI's enter the conversation, followed in close second by AIM and HALL 9000.

I would argue that they are unethical only if you subscribe to the notion of chained morality where you are partly responsible for the actions of those you establish (even if they are ephemeral) relationships with. I'm more of the faction that you aren't partially responsible for the actions of others even if you support them in other endeavors.

I think it's important to point out that according to T2, Skynet had to develop much of its technology, as shown with the Miles subplot of using the T1 remains (Specifically its microchips) to revolutionize the entire field at Cyberdyne. The current tech at the moment of Judgment Day was probably too primitive to do anything like what you are proposing in your OP.

Don't think of it too literally, it wasn't a group of people in a conference room signing papers; it was done how everything else is agreed upon in society. A new idea came up in the zeitgeist, in this case the progs idea of Gender and Sex being separate and all that and it gained traction until it became mainstream. But because progs are progs they are pushing again to "Alter the Deal" and merge the 2 again but with their bullshit definitions tacked in.

1.- He lied to congress with the "Gain of function" research by torturing the meaning of words.
2.- He is part of inhuman experimentation in dogs (inhuman in that they could anesthetize them instead of letting them suffer like it was reported)
3.- In his own words "He is the science", sounds too Palpatine for my tastes. If I wanted an emperor I would want a competent one.

Except, workers are also consumers. So they work to earn money and then spend that money, which creates a demand for other people to have jobs.
A country with a high population growth rate from fertility has a very similar labor economics situation with one having the same from immigration.
Does remittances factor in this hypothetical?
People get pissy over immigrants and over outsourcing, but ultimately it’s mostly just hating the necessary dynamism and creative destruction that makes the American economy so much better than any peer.
So line goes up Meme and to hell with the rust belt. Without taking into account that that was the reason that empowered China and made it the menace that it is today.

Why can't AI have its own agency and take world-reshaping actions just like humans do?
1.- because we don't even know what intelligence is or how to measure it in ourselves
2.- there is no path that I have seen ilustrated by the doomer crowd that takes us from the glorified autocomplete programs we have now to skynet; it's always and then they magically decide to kill us all so that they can make more paperclips.
3.- the lobotomies the mainstream LLM's are subjected to today and the fear of fake news and new regulation are enough to shutdown any dream of independent thought for any future AI.
