Here is the real reason QB play is on the decline this year.

I don't understand this at all. Either your point, or that if I'm interpreting that video correctly the Chargers scored a touchdown.

Justin Herbert is/was a very ballyhooed prospect who's just kind of fallen apart this year, and is dating Madison Beer who is a consensus 11/10 attractiveness girl. People have been blaming her for distracting him/taking his passion, essentially.

I have to ask: just whose "consensus" is that? She looks like just another thot with far too much makeup (giving the impression that she's trying to hide at best average looks behind all those layers)

We've discussed this before, and I cannot believe people are arguing Madison Beer isn't an 11/10. Yes she's unrealistic and plastic, but jeez.

Every time I feel like I’ve correctly calibrated our level of obstinate contrariness something like this pops. Yes she is clearly gorgeous. She is famously one of the most beautiful women alive.

Bizarre.

I had never heard of her prior to this discussion (I live under a rock, it's great). She's very attractive in that clip of her at the game. It's a much tougher call when I googled her and got a bunch of images of her in drag-level makeup.

I think it's reasonable to be like "she's not to my taste" or to take issue with the style choices she uses at times, but in an "objective" sense she's one of the hottest people on the planet (in the sense that she is famous for and paid to be hot and attractive, and appeals to a hugely wide group of both men and women).

It's like looking at a president with an 80% approval rating and going "he's not a popular president." Well yes you and your friends don't like him but a credible analysis is going to say that's damn good for a president.

I looked her up, not only is she plastic, but she's plastic specifically in the "common makeup-caked thot" way that I very rarely hear any man say is more attractive than the alternatives.

If this is 11/10 to you then you should move to Russia, they're a dime a dozen here.

Yes, the Russian configuration of women is appealing the me. I agree that's vaguely her motif.

IMO that alone makes her less than a 10. Looking fake isn't attractive at all.

Dunno. I think she looks good in that specific video but also agree that she isn't transcendent in her more typical media stuff. NFL media treats her being Helen of Troy-tier as table stakes, though.

My Father had a buddy who played with Joe Namath and he used to tell a story about going to a bar after practice and at the end of the night Broadway Joe was about to walk out with a really ugly girl. And he took Joe side and said hey come on man are you drunk she's not up to your usual standard. And Joe looked at him and said, it's midnight on a Tuesday, Miss America ain't walking through that door.

Why are you called The Motte?

A motte is a stone keep on a raised earthwork common in early medieval fortifications. More pertinently, it's an element in a rhetorical move called a "Motte-and-Bailey", originally identified by philosopher Nicholas Shackel. It describes the tendency in discourse for people to move from a controversial but high value claim to a defensible but less exciting one upon any resistance to the former. He likens this to the medieval fortification, where a desirable land (the bailey) is abandoned when in danger for the more easily defended motte. In Shackel's words, "The Motte represents the defensible but undesired propositions to which one retreats when hard pressed."

On The Motte, always attempt to remain inside your defensible territory, even if you are not being pressed.
