I muted him on twitter in disgust months ago. It wasn't really outright lies or manipulation, but basically he was pushing stupid ideas that were generally aligned with what he wants, but were obviously unworkable and yet a person with an IQ somewhere around 140 thought 'fine, I'll post this'. I like the guy for his contributions to space but he is just like his dad. Shameless when it suits him.
There is no subtext, no reading between the lines, no scheming behind the scenes.

You have the most respected public founder, whose public image is pristine, instead of ensuring you leave a legacy, you choose to act like a woman. I've questioned the public story for musk's firm, regardless, even the most skeptical tin foil hat wearing Charles Johnson leader would find the split damming.
A quarter of a billion dollar, loss of revenue from being outed as a 90s liberal who isn't ok with South Africa's near faux anti white apartheid, all to get the guy you backed to publicly want to get you culled.
This isn't even a leftist spiral, leftism will remove its less radical people with time, cuck right is full of liberal rejects, orange man instead chooses to act like a woman. The India Pakistan intervention where he got refuted by both sides, visits to qatar. It's all so tiresome.
How do people here cope with Trump. Themotte unlike slatestarcodex has some balls, the people here probably voted for him over Kamala who would have been terrible too. I'm not sure anyone expected such pettiness on public display.

That’s more the CIA’s territory, it’s likely they sometimes get slushy with the aid budget but it isn’t its purpose. It’s mostly stuff like health/‘community cohesion’/education programs that get skimmed off by local elites who then bribe their own cascading hierarchies of clan members. Whether it’s value for money is debatable, but its purpose is clear and political especially because most of these countries have competing US and Chinese influence operations, and the current Trump admin policy is about maximally antagonizing the Chinese.

Hopefully Musk learns what the majority of the rest of the grey tribe learned long ago: that Trump, while being useful for trashing wokeness, is broadly a thuggish buffoon.
If there was such a thing as "Elite Human Capital" which, for whatever reason, decided that Orange Man Bad, I'd imagine it would be capable of grasping truly mind-bending unintuitive ideas like "let the retards fight", but alas not only is the "Elite Human Capital at home" not capable of that, they picked the wrong retard to hitch themselves to.
It will be fun to see what they'll come up with to blame their own decision on the populists, a few months down the line.

To be sure, I was saying how I would act and it would be a similar tantrum like what Elon does. But I am no politician nor a successful man and I don't know if Elon's actions will be ultimately victorious or destructive. The later is more likely. But his track record shows the opposite. Obviously, we don't understand the world well enough to predict the outcome. But from what we know, the world has a potential of unlimited growth. We are in a different era now, the humanity in all of its history was static, with no growth or very little growth over centuries, but then something changed and rapid growth appeared. It started with the industrial revolution and the world has never been the same since.
Musk vs Trump is the new world vs the old one. The new world will win for sure but expect many battles.
What? You interpret what I said in the worst way. What about a different interpretation – the US reduces borrowing. The borrowing is only a small part of the budget which means that by small reduction, let's say 10%, you could even not only stop borrowing but also pay off some of the debt (the numbers are as example only), and in 5 or 10 years, the US has no debt at all or very insignificant one.
As apposed to in 20 years the US debt is 100% or 200% of the GDP and interest payments comprise 20% of the GDP.

I think this is the vast majority of people on this website. Hlynka was definitely right about that. Yarvin called them (us) "dark elves" in that one substack post (which did have some good insights, but dear lord is he terrible at optics), and the same people are the "tech right" that has been so recently ascendant until like 8 hours ago. The extremes always pull the moderates to the edges (h/t martyrmade's "Fear and Loathing in the New Jerusalem", the best podcast about Israel and Palestine that's ever been made), and the culture war has pulled scott's "grey tribe" towards the blue and red, and in more even proportions than you'd think.

I also grew up on Pointless Waste of Time. FYI, the guy who ran PWOT, Jason Pargin (nom de poast David Wong) still has an internet presence. His twitter feed is pretty damn funny. He now has a substack that I think is pretty good and in particular does a very solid job of threading the needle between "don't piss off the blue normies" while still being actually insightful, same basic thread as he did back in the day. He's also been very successful on tiktok (not really my thing, can't comment on quality or anything), I think that's actually mainly how he mainly makes his living.
