How come, despite having a huge population of marks, we don't seem to have a dedicated scammer class in the U.S. like they do in Europe?
For the amount of effort they put into scams, they would legitimately make more money working a typical sales job in the US. Also MLM exists here and scams do happen in tourist heavy urban cores like in NYC.

A person experimenting with recipes might have invested dozens or hundreds of hours in it and wants the prestige.
Alternatively, it might be something like it being the literal recipe on the box or in an ad works and there is modest shame in just using Betty Crocker or whatever (Always loved this on reddit- https://old.reddit.com/r/BestofRedditorUpdates/comments/so19qf/cake_maker_doesnt_make_hers_from_scratch_but_lies/ )
Mostly I think of this as a thing grandmothers do because their own memories of childhood are somewhat faded, but their (reconstructed?) memory of their own grandmother telling them a secret recipe at age 9 is sharp, happy and resulted in bonding moment. It's a nonconsequential responsibility you can give to a child.

I don't know Chinese and have never made an earnest attempt at learning it.
Depending on how distracted you are on your computer (or mobile) over several hours, get an intro to Chinese physical book from your local library and start using that. If there are several, look online and see if one has free premade flashcards for mobile use. Perhaps also make physical flashcards, because https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leitner_system is a good way to get results via spaced repetition.
Since it will be a slow buildup to learning all the characters, https://www.fluentu.com/blog/chinese/pinyin-subtitles/ may be a good idea for watching Chinese language entertainment.

Having delivered Amazon Flex throughout greater Birmingham for a few years(never as far as college town proper, but Brookwood/Vance one unlucky game day night), I'd say even the sketchiest areas are "merely uncomfortable" during daytime, but I hated taking runs to particular neighborhoods after dark. If I had a 4 hour run with 1 hour going after dark, I could adjust schedule to be less efficient but finish those areas early. My dad worked the 2010 census around here and hated the idea of going to some of those places at night. Only time I had a gun directly pointed at me was in Remlap, older guy thought only a meth-head would be driving to his trailer at night while raining, a not especially wrong belief. I just wish he had held it, safety off at his side and not stood in position with it levelled at me.
The few times people people aggressively approached me when outside my car and I just said "I don't carry cash and don't get tips. I'm pretty sure what's in my car is mostly books, dog food, and diapers." and they'd laugh or mutter and do something else.
Najeh getting murdered still pisses me off because I grew up within walking distance of that Domino's and Summit apartments.

Going from a dead wiki reference to Calley https://archive.is/ecrlE , he does come across as somewhat stupid in terms of being a community college dropout and screwing up a few jobs, but Project 100k was strictly about getting more enlisted- Calley caused as much harm as he did because he was an officer in charge of others. He was able to go to Officer Candidate School based on his ASVAB [standardized test score].

I was born in 1988, one of my first memories is my dad reading out Zork on an Apple II while waiting for my suggestions around 1991. Later, I was allowed to use his 3.1/95 computers under his supervision, and with the 95 I was given a full 2 hours of encarta per day in the family den.
I was given my own pc, a Dell with Windows 98 for my 11th birthday, with the understanding that I could only use the dial-up internet service (AOL) when my mom wasn't using the phone. I made point and click games in powerpoint and played a ton of Civ II, and set up a geocities site for my friends to roleplay our favorite action cartoons- DBZ and Gundam Wing.

He wrote a book called The Cult of Smart. This book has valuable insights about how charter schools can IQ poach out of normal public schools to make themselves look very impressive.

Fox News just has a weird relationship with youtube in terms of their clips being uploaded by random people more often than others. Their actual youtube channel isn't meant to convey news, but is more spicy 2-5 minute clips that are uploaded every few hours for virality potential.
They also try a bit harder to promote their app to audience, and it doesn't seem to have failed like CNN's did 6 month ago.
They have news shows which are more general, but with unsubtle conservative slant (and most conservative Americans would say the other cable news channels are unsubtle about liberal/progressive slant), but there are also opinion shows which get the most ratings and are more focused on US politics.

A part of this is the disintegrating barrier between public and private life due to social media, as well as who gets considered a public figure. A part of this is because of a shift in progressive values over time, where what may be considered racist or sexist has changed generationally to the point that under previous conditions, certain intersectional talking points would have absolutely been considered racist or sexist.

You can probably assess whether you'd like a band with 1-3 15 second clips of their music.
Start a blog reviewing the music and plays you like and offer better posts as freelancer content to the small remaining local outlets, get press access to events you could possibly be interested in and interview people?
Go to conventions for things that interest you and try to have friendly acquaintances within an hour of a given metro area, treat them to dinner and figure out the local situation from them?

Depending on mechanical skill, Kirby (star allies is easier than forgotten land), Mario Odyssey, DK Tropical Freeze. Kirby and Mario contain co-op, Mario and DK have an easy mode.
Once fairly literate, co-op on Stardew Valley is overwhelmingly fun and cheerful, but one character has inappropriate scenes (alcoholism, suicidal thoughts) after you get to know them well enough.
Virtual console has lots of classic games but many are harder.
Keep an eye out for Super Mario RPG remake in a few months.
To those that didn't watch- the Kansas City Chiefs did in fact come back from being down 14 points to beat the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl- the championship game of the NFL. This means they are the best team in the sport of American gridiron football.
Fans of the sport will argue about two particular calls that the referees made that seem to have strongly changed the game.
I am more interested in the gameclock management that the Chiefs used in the final 2 minutes of the game while things were still tied. It was a very undramatic way of winning at the very end- while quite close to being able to get a touchdown, the Chiefs decided to burn almost all of the time up by kneeling the ball 3 times, then kicking the field goal. There were 11 seconds remaining, and receiving the ball took 3 seconds. This left 8 seconds for Jalen Hurts of the Eagles to throw a single "Hail Mary"- extremely long and accurate pass, which didn't happen.
I wonder if this kind of clock management is defecting in a game theory sense. The Chiefs won the biggest game, but it was in a manner that probably damages interest in the sport and will increase general usage of the tactic.
I could just be salty because I like both Jalen (I'm an Alabama fan) and Mahomes (I have won the past 2 seasons of fantasy football with him as my keeper) and wanted a more dramatic fun end for either.
EDIT: Also the question probably should have been fun thread, but it makes sense you'd put it in daily thread when people might have actually answered before the answer was known.

My mom did an absolute cop-out and told me that the mailman had taken my "blankie" away, so from ages 3-6 I was absolutely hostile to the postal service.
My replacement was a platypus (search for folkmanis folktails platypus for the specific one) which I semi-personified and was more fully personified by my dad in freeform bedtime stories.

I would strongly discourage people from teaching in general before that additional information- in your case I'd say absolutely not.
As to other career possibilities, what are your current skills and what skills could you cultivate this month to the point you could get a full time job with them next month?
