Even if the average black doctor has lower MCATs than other doctors, they're still going to be plenty good to do basic medical procedures.

From the article

One professor said that a student in the operating room could not identify a major artery when asked, then berated the professor for putting her on the spot.

She knows literally less than a decent butcher.

If I had to choose in the liberal parts of the US in a cold call situation - probably my gradation would be - East Asian, White, South Asian/Latino, black. Of course the best would be to actually have detailed professional history to make a judgement per individual. But that is not an option because of reasons.

were West Indian

This really boggles the mind. They are as much DOS as ADOS are, the vast majority of them were worked to death so the survivors weren't chosen for their working ethic or intelligence, why aren't they as dysfunctional as ADOS?

  • It can't be their genes, unless you subscribe to the idea that it's the white trash admixture that is responsible for low ADOS performance
  • It can't be their socioeconomic circumstances, Jamaican GDP PPP per capita is $13543, according to IMF, while Mississippi's is $49911

Labour survived the leadership of Corbyn and the disastrous 2019 election, I see not reason why the Conservatives can't do the same.

Yeah. From some non-political fields, I can tell that my heart is progressive, but through bitter experience my head is conservative, if I stop to use it. It's very who-whom.

When I'm the one pushing for the changes, I've thought enough about them (of course I have!) that I feel confident that they'll be a net benefit. But I can't see what everyone else's life is like, and for any long term project, I need widespread buy-in from all sectors. If I overturn their world, I won't get that. And then, of course, if it's someone else trying to push their (poorly thought out, most likely) changes on me that I haven't had time to fully examine the consequences of, well, that of course is a problem. :-)

Who knew the Motte was filled with so many hopeless romantics?

But not quite the way you mean it. This is advice I wish I'd been given, and had taken. But I missed some chances, and then unpredictable bad life shit happened. So I'm projecting a bit here. Maybe this path will work out better for you than it did for me. You certainly make a reasonable case for it. Good luck, whatever you do!

If Canada is any guide they will probably regroup and hang in there -- it's not like the people who were Conservatives are going anywhere, they are just pissed at the current leadership.

(and if the English Left turns out to be even 10% as unserious as what we've got going on in the colonies, everyone will be twice as pissed at them before the year is out)

My kid's school district is hosting a Pride parade.

...

When I was in school I pretty much considered it

prison, and

the people operating this prison were the last people I looked to for approval or insight

Can you teach the kids to march while whistling "Colonel Bogey" or something?

I think it’s best to see these as trends affecting extremely poor, rural, badly educated people more than indigenous people specifically per se. It’s not irrelevant but if you look at the places with eg. highest single motherhood, teenage pregnancy among the white population they’re probably places that are closer in many ways to indigenous communities on many metrics. In Canada, Hawaii and elsewhere, indigenous people who are smart and want to make something of themselves in settler civilization quickly assimilate within 2 generations; there isn’t a native elite the way there’s a longstanding (if small) black upper-middle class in places like Atlanta.

My read at the time was that Mutual Friend was attempting to arrange for Other Girl to "go to the prom", and was trying to find someone to fill a critical slot in the plan. I've had no reason to re-evaluate that.

If it had been Mutual Friend asking for herself, I might have said yes. We had known each other for years at school, and hours upon hours in the same school bus by that point. But any theoretical indulgence for our shared history did not extend to Other Girl.

predicting that Russia was peaceful in its intentions and should be courted as a reliable ally against China

did your standard vatnik cope of 'Russia clearly had a grand plan when they attacked with their weak forces, look at me I'm so smart.

He didn't say this. Mearsheimer:

Alexander Grushko, then Russia’s deputy foreign minister, said, “Georgia’s and Ukraine’s membership in the alliance is a huge strategic mistake which would have most serious consequences for pan-European security.” Putin maintained that admitting those two countries to NATO would represent a “direct threat” to Russia. One Russian newspaper reported that Putin, while speaking with Bush, “very transparently hinted that if Ukraine was accepted into NATO, it would cease to exist.”

Russia’s invasion of Georgia in August 2008 should have dispelled any remaining doubts about Putin’s determination to prevent Georgia and Ukraine from joining NATO

Next, Putin put massive pressure on the new government in Kiev to discourage it from siding with the West against Moscow, making it clear that he would wreck Ukraine as a functioning state before he would allow it to become a Western stronghold on Russia’s doorstep.

He then said that, before the Russians started sanction-proofing, the Russian military and economy was too weak to conquer Eastern Ukraine. And that's basically correct, they haven't easily conquered Eastern Ukraine!

Russia lacks the capability to easily conquer and annex eastern Ukraine, much less the entire country. Roughly 15 million people—one-third of Ukraine’s population—live between the Dnieper River, which bisects the country, and the Russian border. An overwhelming majority of those people want to remain part of Ukraine and would surely resist a Russian occupation. Furthermore, Russia’s mediocre army, which shows few signs of turning into a modern Wehrmacht, would have little chance of pacifying all of Ukraine.

He foresaw basically everything ten years in advance! He clearly knows more than I do, I thought the war would end much sooner. John "Cassandra" Mearsheimer was consistently proven right in the past. I trust he'll be right now that he's had extra time to analyse recent events.

Mearsheimer's proposals also created a basis for a coalition of Russia, China, and Iran

No, Mearsheimer proposed competition with China and rapprochement with Russia and Iran, or at least not going out of our way to antagonize them.

The US creates conditions, other actors have conditions imposed by the US

Have you actually read Mearsheimer's books or journal articles? If so, you clearly haven't understood them. At no point does he say this. He has a structural model of international relations where the great powers act according to various motivations. This is pretty basic undergraduate-level stuff.

there had been two separate major Ukrainian successes that occurred despite the same general match of airpower.

Kherson and the other counteroffensives in 2022 were successful because the Russian army was barely there or decided to withdraw, assessing that it was too risky to be potentially cut off behind a river. The differences between the 2022 pre-mobilization Russian army, spread more widely across unfortified or difficult-to-defend land and the situation in 2023 are considerable.

The point of perverse languages games is as you just demonstrated: to claim the connotations of a state of affairs described by a descriptive doctrinal ('niche') definition, when the conditions to meet that state aren't being met, by substituting a watered down ('practical') definition that can be retreated to if challenged but otherwise can be used to claim the authority / argumentative advantage of the stronger descriptive definition.

You need to understand that Russia possessed air superiority and that air superiority is NOT the sole determinant of battles (I think I understand why US struggles so much with COIN with this mindset). Attacking an absent enemy with air superiority is one thing, a fortified and numerous enemy with air superiority is something totally different.

I'm especially staggered that you spend a paragraph lambasting me for motte and bailey and then admit the Russians had the 'superior air position' through the whole war. You just invented a synonym for air superiority that perfectly undermines both your motte-and-bailey argument and your 'Russia didn't have air superiority' point. Wake up! You're defending positions so silly even the Atlantic Council has written them off.

Yes, the Europeans, with their thousands of planes, lack the land force

No, they don't. Between Britain, France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Poland and Turkey... they can muster a larger army than Ukraine with active troops alone, let alone reservists (or disabled draftees). They are much stronger than Ukraine. This isn't a debate, you're just wrong. Check wikipedia if you like, it's pretty obvious how much larger the European NATO armies are than Ukraine's.

if you just attempted a perverse language game for a strawman that reverses a position in the previous post.

a Russia that having destroyed its modernized force is in the process of face-tanking its reactivated Soviet stocks while humiliating its pre-war martial reputation

Sounds pretty worn out to me. But I'm sure you can conjure up some elaborate meaning where worn-out means something totally different. And of course you can create some fantasy world where the face-tanked, unmodern (but not worn out!) Soviet stocks are capable of struggling with Ukraine but would beat Europe's far larger and better militaries.

Ok so the the point of fidelity is less that 'he will cheat' and more that 'marriage is no guarantee he is off limits', whether as an initiator or as a recipient. Fidelity being an afterthought was a statement meant to communicate required vigilance on the part of the woman, compared to observed western practices where women take husbands for granted and presume they will never stray. Asian women are hardly 'accepting' of cheating insomuch as wary of it, and that wariness permeates. Not the most extant expectation by far, but women raised on kdramas do seem especially sensitive to female friends of their husbands. One guy I know has to surrender his phone to his wife every night for message review, even though he's the nicest dweeb ever who had to be cajoled into going to the beach with the woman on a church outing.

They don't have to go back, they just need to be smacked into submission and change their ways or reveal their own desire to fight against whites and have their evil exposed. Good whites are the ones now edging towards race riots and I can't blame them. Europe is where a race riot is likely to start next, and the arabs who crow about breeding out the europeans and stealing the spoils for themselves are in for a rude awakening.

Specifically, they are the descendants by the male line, because that's what it means to be a people.

That's just not true though. It was especially not true before agriculture and pastoralism, but even after that it isn't true. The Basque are more R1b then the other Iberians, but they are a separate people, because memes and genes are distinct. Scandinavians have very diverse y-chromosomes, but aren't any less a coherent people because of it. Most people's are of diverse lineages and some cultures are even matrilineal or bilineal. To say nothing of people's who just adopted an entirely new culture without much gene flow, like the Magyars or the hyphenated Americans you consider yourself above.

Is this a fairly recent thing with Harvard?

No, Harvard has been shutting out ADOS students for at least 20 years.

https://www.nytimes.com/2004/06/24/us/top-colleges-take-more-blacks-but-which-ones.html

While about 8 percent, or about 530, of Harvard's undergraduates were black, Lani Guinier, a Harvard law professor, and Henry Louis Gates Jr., the chairman of Harvard's African and African-American studies department, pointed out that the majority of them -- perhaps as many as two-thirds -- were West Indian and African immigrants or their children, or to a lesser extent, children of biracial couples.

What does that even mean

Welfare, benefits, legal aid, and increasingly, as in this week in DC and already elsewhere, voting.

This generalizes for basically every profession and even moreso since the internet exists now.

That being said 50-80% of the population likely doesn’t have that IQ I need the relatively smart doctor who can do the read the internet for cure thing.

This seems obvious if you run some numbers. I am not going to look up what percentage of the population dies a year or total deaths in America but 1-1.5% sounds about right.

I would guess 4-5 million deaths per year and the 440k number would imply 1/10 of deaths are medical error.

Either the definition of error is very low - like a mistake costs a person 10 minutes of life or the number is wrong. When people say medical errors they would assume they died youngish because the doctor did something like gave them the wrong drug or cut an artery during surgery.

Is this a fairly recent thing with Harvard? And is there a big gap between Harvard and 10-20 ranked American schools? I can’t think of people I know who went to the second tier of schools and one who went to Stanford who were ADOS. This article sounds like there are basically none. I think they said perhaps 17.

I think it is fair to say if ADOS at Harvard basically do not exists then all of DEI is just a grift. If your concern is structural racism then Harvard shouldn’t just be recruiting in Nigeria if they are extremely concerned about structural racism. If you believe the issue is structural racism as oppose to lack of ability admitting a ton of ADOS would be an obvious solution and something Harvard has the ability to fix (training plus credentialing) a ton of Nigerians and no ADOS would be a refusal to do the hard thing for laziness or tacit admission that ADOS are just too dumb to be at Harvard.

Also there is a big difference between padding the stats and the article sounding like there are a dozen or two ADOS at Harvard.

I was describing my own experience, not that of others at my university. I actually didn't really make friends with anyone in university. My friends were all friends from high school and were mostly guys. Most of the women I knew were my friends girlfriends.

I was in engineering at a mid-sized school, so about 85% of my classmates were men. I didn't really know much about the dating life of my classmates, but among my friends, there wasn't a huge amount of hooking up that I was aware of. People mostly pursued relationships that would last about a year to a few years.

Now you have me wondering if this might also be part of the answer to your question - clinics consciously avoiding potentially less qualified candidates from nearer to home, in a way that still makes them look "diverse".

This is the Harvard method. Supposedly, Harvard is like 20% black. The bad news is these are all rich international students, children of recent immigrants, and people with heavy European admixture.

It's been speculated that there are actually no Harvard students who have 4 ADS (American descendants of slaves) grandparents.

Hey, Google actually found it. https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2020/10/15/gaasa-scrut/

Within Harvard’s GAA population today, O’Sullivan has noticed a seemingly large percentage of biracial students and students who come from socioeconomically-privileged backgrounds. “If we were to count the number of GAA students at Harvard who were descended from enslaved people, came from low income backgrounds, first generation, four grandparents descended from enslaved people, I feel like that number would be so low — like, maybe one person. It’s just so, so, so low,” she says.

Harvard is completely shutting out disadvantaged black people in America. Instead, Harvard pads its stats with people whose only connection with ADS people is the same skin color (and sometimes barely even that).

Ultimately, Harvard and the KKK share the same belief about race: That the color of your skin matters more than the content of your character.

US is likely to lose WW3 pretty soon (~5 years )

Can you please elaborate? Maybe even in separate thread? Or please send me the links if you wrote about this previously.

Who are the people whose preference is "legal immigratns > illegal immigrants > fewer/no immigrants"?

In my neck of the woods, black doctors, especially those who've come onto the scene recently enough for this to potentially matter, are almost invariably relative newcomers from Nigeria (and often Irish-trained). They seem as competent as anyone - in any case I've been quite happy with mine.

They're thus unlikely to be affected much by lowered standards, actual or perceived, in the North American continent. Now you have me wondering if this might also be part of the answer to your question - clinics consciously avoiding potentially less qualified candidates from nearer to home, in a way that still makes them look "diverse".
