What happened to @ymeskhout?

His profile says banned on request, people do it from time to time if they need to spend more time away from the community for whatever reason (like real life work).

I’m sure he’ll be back.

Also in Finland.

A lot of acts with queer themes did well. The UK act did badly because that guy just couldn't sing.

Is this right? Fifteen books, ranging from #1-6?

Six main novels, yes. I kind of forgot how many side stories are there, maybe I should read them.

The Book of the New Sun?

I recall reading the first book many moons ago, but I didn't read further. My written down impressions from back then are mostly complaining about overloaded, opaque prose, funnily enough. My taste might have changed, but I would still say that the style is quite different

Does this have an audiobook, and is the narration any good?

It does.

is the narration any good?

No. Though I'm not a fan of fiction audiobooks in the first place

Lirael is definitely the best book in the original series. She's the most engaging protagonist and I really enjoy her relationship with the dog. I also liked reading about the society of the Clayr.

I've only read the original trilogy but I've bought the newer books - pretty excited to start them!

The people who all share the same name by a coincidence, and that name is 😷✊🏿🇺🇦🇵🇸

The winner also identifies as non-binary.

Eurovision has been flamboyant and gay-adjacent for decades and as its inhabitants concede, Western Europe is pretty gay.

Eurovision has always been a mix of political and song enjoyment. It is highly unlikely that politics had nothing to do with this considering how the Israeli-Palestinian war is the current big issue. Ukraine won in 2022, and it makes sense that the war is going to affect a decent share of votes.

What backlash, what assassination? Donald Trump was old and overweight, there's nothing unusual when an old overweight person dies from cardiac arrest. Nothing to see here, move along.

Speak plainly.

Terminally online on the left side, if you insist.

No, the country music audience likes baseball

More than football? Hispanics I agree of course. But I do think there has been a big decline amongst Ellis Island Americans. Every suburban white male New Yorker (be he Jewish, Irish or Italian) over fifty seems to like baseball, almost no young ones do.

Interesting—didn’t realize that. Thanks!

Yet another reason to eliminate immigration. Liking soccer is moral degeneracy. I say this only slightly in jest!

I suspect the dominant soccer audience are immigrants and progressives dying to be European

Has anyone here started a substack? I've been thinking of doing one, but having trouble getting started. I have a lot of ideas, but they're all over the place- I have no real niche where I can call myself an expert. And I don't have any following from twitter or whatever, this would be starting from scratch. I don't care about making money, but I would like people to actually read it and take me seriously.

Also my opinions are um... all over the place- both liberals and and alt-right would find something to get mad about. Is this even worth it? Or should I just write a diary?

The odds of a deranged person along the lines of Wilkes a booth or Oswald or any of the other people who’ve killed American president, much higher, although today security for Presidents is vastly higher and could probably foil most threats.

The probability of a successive assassination scheme gets even lower if you get rid of one that actually superficially ‘succeeded’ in being actualized by one individual who was ‘a deranged person’, given that there’s probably a moderately high chance that Oswald didn’t even shoot at Kennedy, nonetheless kill him.

Define powerful. Not going to instantly get fired for supporting Trump? Sure. Having influence, though? That's much harder.

Pretty sure the documents themselves have clear classification markings on them?

Even if this is the case -- and we in fact do not know that -- it would only be noticed by examining the document. Just casually looking in the open box would not make it obvious. There's a reason cover sheets are very noticable like that.

To the public, maybe?

And to the court, at the time.

The claim is true, though

How do you know? At this point you have only the FBI's say-so.

Do you actually think this made a difference in anyone's reaction to this case?

Yes, there was in fact a lot of screaming about "OMG nuclear secrets" and "OMG HUMINT, Trump's getting our spies killed!"

You should make one if you want people to read it. They might not, but they certainly can't if it doesn’t exist. You probably shouldn’t go into it with the expectation that it will be popular, but if you’re going to write things anyway, why not?

Everyone claiming that "feminists want to castrate all men" cite the same small handful of mentally ill fringe figures, e.g., Valerie Solano, Andrea Dworkin, etc.

The number of women who actually, unironically want to "cull men and castrate them" is probably considerably less than the number of men who actually, unironically take KulakRevolt's or Dread Jim's ideas about lobotomizing/turning women into sex slaves seriously.

opportunity cost is a thing. also, was hoping for some more specific tips or advice instead of bland platitudes of encouragement. thanks though.

What's more American than inventing a bizarre new identity for yourself, especially a sexual identity, and proclaiming that to the world? I would have thought America's at the forefront of that.

I used to play amateur poker. I was good enough that I could see myself becoming a winning player if I really wanted to grind at it, but I was playing for fun and didn't want to turn into a grinder (any pro player will tell you that playing the 1/2 tables at a casino is worse than a minimum wage job, and moving up to the higher tables requires serious study).

For learning poker math (which is crucial to being a decent player), I recommend David Slanksy. Dan Harrington is pretty good at covering theory and strategy. If you plan to play for money at a casino, just playing basic mathematically sound ABC poker will make you a winner at most lower tables, but there are a ton of books and apps for trying to improve your marginal win rate. Personally, if you just want to play for fun, I'd recommend a bar poker league.
