Millennials are old enough to remember to eerie feeling of walking into a house that hadn't been updated since 1977 that had orange carpeting in one room and yellow wallpaper in another and harvest gold kitchen appliances on top of a fake brick linoleum floor. We're old enough to remember bathrooms with pink tile and no one thinking this was something that needed to be changed.
To add to this: Mrs. FiveHour is a woman of taste. She will happily spend quite a bit of time/money on getting the thing she wants. She would divorce me if I suggested tearing out our home's pink bathroom.
Ten years ago, that wasn't the case. They used to absolutely look dated trash, now they're retro cool.
By contrast, gray was in fashion, and still is, but my dad is redoing the floor at the family beach house. And it's not my place, so I'm not going to be too picky, but the one rule I had was Absolutely No on gray vinyl plank. Because it's everywhere, and right now we all say it's neutral and timeless, but in another five to ten years, we'll see a house with gray floors and it will look like a cheap flip from 2018.
Things go in cycles.

But that’s quite often how trans comes off to me as a woman. They’re wearing super feminine things while tge cis women I know are rocking sweats and hoodies. Like one trans woman comes to work dressed in a pink or black dress and knee high socks and having his/her hair up in a ponytail with a ribbon. The actual women he/she works with are wearing hoodies, tee shirts, jeans or slacks. And the mannerisms seem to be trying too hard, like they’re consciously trying to be as feminine as possible, something other women don’t really do. At times, a lot of this feels exactly like what you’ve describing here, like someone took every stereotype of what women are like and chose to do all of those things. And I can’t help but mentally go into trans-racialism which isn’t a thing yet, but would explain better how this comes off. Imagine that I decide that internally, im black. So I start buying the kinds of clothes I’ve come to understand black people wear, I bring watermelon and fried chicken for lunch because black people like watermelon and fried chicken, I start talking in redicuoulsly bad Ebonics. At some point, you’d point out that you’re not only not acting like real black people, but you’re acting out a racist’s idea of what black people are like. Saying that you “feel like a black person in a white body, and all of this stuff im doing im doing because im an authentic black person,” is silly. And I really think in either case the question must be asked “what does being black/male/female/hindu etc. feel like?”
And at some level nobody else is thinking about their various identities in that kind of way. You’re living life, a perfectly ordinary life where you do things without thinking about them too much.

Interesting - I still love it (and relevant to here, especially for its representation of AI).
When do you feel it started to go off the rails?
I've mostly been focused on image generators. Between improvements to LoRA development processes along with Wan's image-to-video and first-frame-last-frame-to-video, there's been some pretty massive advances in the last six months or so. It's still hard to get consistency in animation, along with long generation times the reasons why why all those animation shots floating around tend to just be a couple seconds long, but that we're at the point where 'make this arbitrary subject into a turntable motion effect' is getting complaints about background consistency is not what I imagined just a couple years ago. They don't always work, but we're not talking 'success' in the sense 'that it can do it at all' anymore.
I keep hoping that this'll end up being a useful tool for artists -- someone with a real eye for the medium and a good sketching hand should be able to use this to crank out in days what would otherwise take weeks or even months of dedicated work, in the same way that two years ago plain StableDiffusion could save artists a ton of time with crosshatching or rosettes or shading -- but there's not enough people really messing in the field to say for sure. Even for those few working in this there's not a lot publicly visible with how many conventional galleries ban the stuff, and a lot who might be some of the most adept at it already have workflows that fill in many of these gaps for comic- or even animation-level work.
AI voicework has a lot of potential. I've toyed with it a little, though getting decent emotion through is still a bit beyond me. The workflows are still a little too finicky to use real-time, but eventually getting an Emet Selch together would be fun for the memes.
I've been trying to get a full workflow for image-to-3d-print and image-to-CNC together. 2D works are easy, if not especially entertaining, but it should be well within the existing tech to do a lot of creative stuff, here. Almost have Meshroom to a point where it'll work, but not there yet.
Haven't been able to get any of the offline ones to write reasonable fiction, and I don't particularly trust the online ones for anything more complicated. For conventional fiction, it takes a frustrating amount of prompting to get a work that's surprising enough to be interesting without swerving into M. Night Shamalayan territory; trying to get exofiction or a counterfactual story or anything complex with viewpoint tends to go batshit (and for smut, the line between interesting and disgusting is very thin and hard-to-encode just for my own use). But I haven't messed with it too much.
Notice how he didn't say that they're good at coding? He said that they're useful for his job.
LLMs are useful for SWEs, at least for some types some of the time. There is value here but they're poor programmers and to use them effectively you have to be relatively competent.
Its also very easy to fool yourself into thinking that they're much more valuable than they really are, likely due to how easily and eloquently the answer queries and requests.

Anyways the point still stands that the answer to this prompt does not convincingly pass as human written.

I was just talking about WoT a few weeks back and while the series as a whole was kinda uneven for me (tl;dr I loved the first four and last three books, it's 5-12 that could be so-so) I still have to say it's an excellent series overall. I think @SubstantialFrivolity is dead on in observing that the wait for the next book was a significant factor in making the slog through the slower-paced books more difficult for me personally as well. More generally, with a story of such epic scope, there's almost bound to be some characters that you're eager to read more of, others that are irritating and/or frustrating, some plot threads that you find really satisfying, and other plot threads that are b-o-o-ring to the point of tears. But even with everything we fans have to complain about, it's still a hell of an epic tale at the end of the day. I'd encourage you to stick with it a bit longer (although certainly pull the ripcord if it's not grabbed you by the end of the first book at the latest) and see whether or not it picks up for you.

It's not only the voting base. The census counts illegals too (Trump tried to change it and lost), and with thin margins of current Congress majorities/minorities, two more/less seats for California or Texas may decide who controls the House. It is also budgets - leftist NGOs were getting literally billions of dollars from the budget for "immigrant services". You need to have a crisis to get billions for "helping to solve" it. Plus, of course, there are a lot of businesses who wouldn't mind cheap labor force not covered by the myriad of regulations Democrats introduce - which is fine with Democrats, since they get less pushback from businesses for introducing those, as businesses know: in a pinch, they can always hire illegals. And, of course, this population now needs welfare/social services coverage, which means expanding welfare state programs (and attached NGO networks, again) - a dream for every Democrat. In addition to that, on the ideological level, the colonial powers need to pay for their past sins, and accepting unlimited migration is the prescribed way to do that. The West stole everything from oppressed people, now the oppressed people finally get to enjoy it. There are many factors why unlimited migration aligns well with the governance model Democrats are embodying.

I agree. And it doesn't. Code generated by LLMs routinely hallucinates APIs that simply don't exist, has grievous security flaws, or doesn't achieve the desired objective. Which is not to say humans never make such mistakes (well, they never make up non-existent APIs in my experience but the other two happen), but they can learn and improve. LLMs can't do that, at least not yet, so they are doing worse than humans.

I'm not saying you should! I'm not telling you that mine is the only valid opinion; I did after all say that reasonable people can disagree on this. My issue is solely that your comment comes off as dismissing anyone who disagrees with you as too inexperienced to have an informed opinion. When you say "They can't code? Have you seen the average code monkey?", it implies "because if you had, you wouldn't say that LLMs are worse". That is what I object to, not your choice to listen to other programmers who have different opinions than mine.

The Sacred Heart month is also a strange choice to try to co-opt as an act of totalisation because it has almost no cultural currency in the Anglosphere except maybe within American Catholic communities; in fact it it's relevance is fast becoming exclusively as a counter-signal.

Yeah. Fact is that any device that with an internet connection is likely trying to nudge or otherwise cater to you in a way that will get you to alter your behavior, spend money, or even just cough up more information that they think they can use to sell you stuff.
And every time you give in it gets just a little better at predicting/manipulating you.
I like my Alexa devices, but the occasional attempt to say "hey we noticed you liked [X], just say the word and I'll charge you for [Z]!" sometimes make me want to send them off to the Bitcoin mines forever.
I've already precommitted to ignoring any attempts by a smart device to sell me on something I wasn't already intending to buy, unless it can send a big breasted brunette in a bikini to my front door to make the sale. Any marketing experts who are tapping into my motte account can take that as gospel truth and act on it as they see fit.
