TIL Tucker Carlson eulogized Barger.

In July 2022, the Hells Angels made a request to hold a memorial service for Barger at the Oakland Coliseum in East Oakland the following month.[186] Instead, Barger's funeral was held at a motorsports racetrack in Stockton on September 24, 2022. An estimated 7,000 people attended, and the event was peaceful.[187] Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson spoke at the funeral. Carlson said that he had been a fan of Barger since his college years, quoted Barger as saying "stay loyal, remain free, and always value honor", and added: "I want to pay tribute to the man who spoke those words".[188] Barger was laid to rest at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon.[2]

I'm half tempted to ask you for the meanest cowboys jokes you can come up with, and half-worried that you'd deliver.

Divorce in Islam is not fairly common.

Seeing that phrase written instead of spoken and I imagine you checking your wrist.

Unironically, you could probably also figure out a way to shoot them out of a canon. Or a literal trebuchet.

Wouldn't be the best way to do so, obviously, but if we're looking for cost-efficient airdrops, why not blimps and zepplins?

Maybe we could get steampunk zepplins after all.

It's less "is reduced" and more 'reduced itself'. Perhaps they can un-reduce themselves.

found myself with a menagerie of old bikes that had been sitting in garages for years or decades now sitting in my garage and being fixed up and ridden around my neighborhood.

Based.

Sure.

More celebrity, sure, but less controversial? Eh...

Jon gladly flipped between 'most trusted newsperson' and 'you can't take me, I'm just a silly comedian' whenever it suited. He was never balanced, and was a significant cultivator of the 'Democrats may be inept, but Republicans are stupid-evil' smug-superiority of the 2010s progressive cultural zenith.

Having never played Victoria, what effects do you think this would have?

But this has been the case for at least ten years, and the so-called "fascists" remained remarkably unshot until about a week ago.

Widespread, public, and celebratory cheering by left partisans also remained absent until about a week ago. Now it is here, and it is public knowledge that there is a non-trivial degree of revolutionary chic and social support for shooting the evil [capitalist]/[fascist]/[etc.].

One of the noted points of the rise of the Columbine Shooting copycat school shootings was that even unambiguously evil things can be popular/inspirational in their own right, and that popularity (a) isn't degraded by official condemnation, and (b) spreads memetically to copycats. Almost every school kid knows a school bully, or an oppressive school system, or some other grievance, and getting to get even and go out in a blaze of glory is still echoed to this day. Including, not so long ago, the trans-student shooting a christian school.

Charlie Kirk's assassination is far more likely to be part of a trend than an outlier before a return to the status quo. Anti-fascist political violence is a cultural artifact of the further-left ideologies, and cultural artifacts tend to be iceberg dynamics where far more mass is hidden below view, as opposed to potholes that are soon passed.

You just need to kill enough of the Hamasi until the Palestinians can subjugate them on their own.

Why would the Palestinians do that? They mostly either support Hamas or oppose Hamas from the side of thinking they're not killing enough Jews.

Pediatric gender medicine came crashing home for me this week. My neighbor's youngest, older than my oldest but close, started public pre-K this month as a boy and came back this week a girl. The mother of the family seems to think the school knows best and they're both well educated and well equipped to deal with this.

I have thoughts, but I don't want to post in the culture war thread because I don't want a war here. I like my neighbors. I like their boys. But I believe this is a social contagion, and now I have thyphoid Mary living next door. I also believe that kids emulate each other.

What the hell do I do? I don't want to upset my neighbors but don't want to call him she or a girl, and I don't want them telling my kids to do that either.

As of yet, nobody has made any requests of me, but it's consuming my thoughts. I've lost friends over contentious topics recently, like the last year, and I don't want that repeating with people I see every day and can't avoid.

Sure.

What types of cycling have you done? Which is your favorite?

For a do it all machine you pick something in the middle of the bike gradient, so hard tail/hybrid/gravel. The latter is my preference but is also popular and thus more expensive.

My strong opinions are: Shimano group set or bust (though SRAM owns most the MTB market). Buy once cry once (modifying a bike is way more expensive than getting what you want). Getting a used one from a bike charity in your city is your best bet for <=$300, new for $300-$600, and then used again beyond that.

You might be able to cut those costs by 3x in a reasonable way, I'm doubtful that you could drop them by 10x.

What's your estimate on flight costs for helicopter versus C-130? Because I bet you could figure out a way to drop those things out the back of a cargo aircraft by the palletload and have 90%+ reach the ground intact; from eating MREs a few times, I don't remember them being very heavy for their volume, and the packaging is durable...

Maybe ditch the Humanitarian rations and just start dropping sacks of dry beans and rice with cut-rate parachutes? Like, really optimize for usable calories on the ground for the cheapest price possible, where harm to the payload is a minimal concern.

My uncle was president of the Sacramento chapter for a period in the 60's.

because it's seemingly within the Overton window to both say "fascists should be shot", and "this person I don't like is a fascist, trust me".

But this has been the case for at least ten years, and the so-called "fascists" remained remarkably unshot until about a week ago. There is a sense in which politics has become higher stakes now, but that is a function of the underlying reality, not a function of the words we use to describe that reality. I think it's far more likely that Tyler Robinson was pushed over the edge by the (AFAICT accurate) report that the DOJ was considering a ban on transgenders owning firearms than he was by people on the internet calling Republicans "fascists" or "Nazis" instead of less offensive terms like "stupid" or "insensitive".

Keep in mind that Charlie Kirk might be the most assassinatable conservative in modern history. His whole schtick was going into hostile territory at universities across the country and holding open-air events in locations with great sniper cover and sightlines.

Yeah, I never watched Sons of Anarchy when this was the big new hit TV show, but didn't the motorcycle club in that start off that very way? Vets back from the war (Vietnam in this case) found a motorcycle club, and gradually over the years it becomes a criminal outfit.

Roseanne Barr?

Ironically, she actually did have a show canceled after personal presidential intervention over an off-camera tweet of hers - at least as bad as the Kimmel incident.

We've been there since the early 2000s, with "Clown nose on; clown nose off."

I've seen a few of her recent videos and found myself agreeing with her, so either I've become more liberal (doubtful) or she's moved more towards the centre (probable).

I think her reaction here is "Wait. I thought we were the good side. The compassionate side, the tolerant side, the side that tried to understand and accept despite differences? Not like the fanatics and crazies and bad people on the other side? And here are my people cheering a murder and calling for more murders, and the people they want murdered are 'fascists' and hey, that's me! I've been called a fascist!"

It's always a shock to find people you admire, or are on the same broad lines of identifying with, turning out to say and do and admire horrible shit.

They're state-run, they can lose money.

Being gay also pushes him to the left, and black dems are the most moderate dems.

Fun fact- not particularly germane to the topic but still fun- Pete Buttigieg is E Michael Jones' nextdoor neighbour. I'm sure the national night out over there is fun.

Sure.
