The Alice and Bob model is inherently deficient when talking about politics because you're not talking about unitary actors but distributed groups of tens of millions of people. Bob isn't angry because Alice defected. He's angry because he heard Alice's third cousin defected. There's also the distinct matter of asymmetrical vindictiveness. If Alice and Bob 'cheat' at a similar rate, but Alice is (relatively) forgiving while Bob is hypervigilant against cheating and believes in escalatory retaliation, you get a situation where Bob is constantly saying he has no choice but to flip the table to restore balance despite being no better behaved (at best). (See: the GOP's efforts to overturn the 2020 election)
It's deficient for another reason as well: if Alice collectively represents liberals and Bob collectively represents conservatives, there's a problem with the cooperate/defect model, because Alice and Bob have different values and thus different ideas of what it means to cooperate or defect. To pick a high profile historical example: the confirmation for Robert Bork. The Democratic view was that Republicans defected by putting forward a deeply unsuitable judicial nominee. The Republican view was that the Democrats defected by rejecting a perfectly qualified nominee on spurious grounds. Voting rights/voting access are another standout area where normative differences lead to mutual perception that the other team is trying to cheat.

It's been hinted at in other places in the thread- the state of mind of the filmer was relevant. Was he primarily concerned with public safety, or was he getting that rush of power, that delightful (and stereotypically British) moral treat, that getting to call the cops on someone else is?

The next order of magnitude (approx 39400 people) earns just 40 grand a year each. Which is not a bad side hustle if you can streamline the process, but not exactly something that will let you FIRE.

Remember that Baptist hospital (now run by Episcopalians) that was bombed in the first few weeks of the war in Gaza? No?
Canada had an outbreak of church burnings over that Indian burials on schoolgrounds hoax, and not a word about it from any of my church staff. I'm not even sure if they were aware! NPR certainly kept quiet about it. I briefly googled just now and most forum discussion and coverage are from 2021, and they're taking the burial narrative at face value. Most sympathetic pieces are from very partisan sources.
Not closely related to what you just said, but it's something I think about more and more.

Well, I started integrating the substack API, but didn't get very far. Despite the lack of documentation it seems pretty easy to handle, though there are some steuctural differences between it, my app, or even twitter, so it's taking me a while to figure out how to map it.
By the way, is it me or is the FOSS community not quite as vibrant as it used to be? Not long ago, the moment someone exposed an API, you'd have at least one alternative client. Twiiter, Youtube, Reddit, all have alt-readers / viewers, but I haven't found anything for Substack. There's one dude that wrote a Python implementation, and otherwise I've only seen complaints about how there's no Substack API evem though there is.

And how Russia could easily destroy the Dnieper bridges in the Ukraine, but chooses not to - apparently forbidden by the CIA/KGB intel service to disarm Russia for a NATO invasion.
Even if they could destroy them, they probably think they’ll get them in a settlement, or use them for the big push when the ukrainians collapse, as they were always supposed to.
Russians are a lot weaker than they think they are. At the bottom, their ‘inexplicable’ failure to win manifests in conspiracy theories like yours. At the top, they cling to hope of a total victory long after its potential benefits have been exceeded by the horrendous costs of the war.

If you feel like Chinese food instead, there's loads in Chinatown but I like Spicy Village for something casual - David's Bar next door will let you take their food in if you want to have a drink and likely meet some folks (more generally, a good way to meet people in NYC is to pop through a bar that's so small everyone is in close proximity). The infamous Dimes Square is nearby, but there's nothing to actually see at the moment.
Since you've got a lot of time, definitely go see the Cloisters. It's a great neighbourhood, too, and will give you some topological variety and good cardio just walking around.

Our understanding of insurgency is pretty developed at this point, and applying more violence is not the answer.
The problem in Afghanistan was lack of clarity from the very top about America's goals, which is why the military couldn't build a coherent insurgency or counter-insurgency plan. Instead they just applied violence to whoever happened to be looking funny at the US at any given moment. More of that would have been disastrous.

Which creates a different angle, where banning the carry of weapons is meant specifically to stratify a society by class. The [modern right] is more egalitarian than the [modern left], so it's natural they'd push in an egalitarian direction.
This kind of ties back to militia stuff too; the class of person expected to defend the society from outside threats when called up with his personal weapon is naturally worthy to bear that arm at any other time. To do otherwise is stealing, in a way.

I'm more than glad to give them actual work that benefits me, such as grabbing rabid children off the streets. Subscription revenue is down, but transactional revenue is up 95%. This means that OF "creators" are making their money, now, on actually bartering pseduo-social-sexual relationships with buyers.
Alternatively the OF industry is finding out that the push for subscription revenue/arr was total bullshit pushed by blackrock and private equity, and actually isn't as effective at extracting money from customers as expected.
Gaming has definitely gone all in on f2p and microtransactions and it works. A whale who drops thousands on gacha is worth orders of magnitude more than someone paying 9.99 a month for subscription.
As far as I am aware there are some OF sellers that sell videos and image sets individually, which also happens to be the way that traditional pr0n worked.
I live in Australia, it’s not regulated at a federal level but state by state. I live in one of the states where it’s fully legal and regulated, I prefer it that way.
Mandatory STI screening, no pimping, tax deductions for condoms, whips, dildos, or whatever for the workers - I think it’s the right way to go about it. The industry won’t just disappear if it were criminalised, it would just become more dangerous, less sanitary and more likely to involve exploitation much like other countries where it exists in the shadows.
