Culture War Roundup for the week of April 27, 2026

This weekly roundup thread is intended for all culture war posts. 'Culture war' is vaguely defined, but it basically means controversial issues that fall along set tribal lines. Arguments over culture war issues generate a lot of heat and little light, and few deeply entrenched people ever change their minds. This thread is for voicing opinions and analyzing the state of the discussion while trying to optimize for light over heat.

Optimistically, we think that engaging with people you disagree with is worth your time, and so is being nice! Pessimistically, there are many dynamics that can lead discussions on Culture War topics to become unproductive. There's a human tendency to divide along tribal lines, praising your ingroup and vilifying your outgroup - and if you think you find it easy to criticize your ingroup, then it may be that your outgroup is not who you think it is. Extremists with opposing positions can feed off each other, highlighting each other's worst points to justify their own angry rhetoric, which becomes in turn a new example of bad behavior for the other side to highlight.

We would like to avoid these negative dynamics. Accordingly, we ask that you do not use this thread for waging the Culture War. Examples of waging the Culture War:

  • Shaming.

  • Attempting to 'build consensus' or enforce ideological conformity.

  • Making sweeping generalizations to vilify a group you dislike.

  • Recruiting for a cause.

  • Posting links that could be summarized as 'Boo outgroup!' Basically, if your content is 'Can you believe what Those People did this week?' then you should either refrain from posting, or do some very patient work to contextualize and/or steel-man the relevant viewpoint.

In general, you should argue to understand, not to win. This thread is not territory to be claimed by one group or another; indeed, the aim is to have many different viewpoints represented here. Thus, we also ask that you follow some guidelines:

  • Speak plainly. Avoid sarcasm and mockery. When disagreeing with someone, state your objections explicitly.

  • Be as precise and charitable as you can. Don't paraphrase unflatteringly.

  • Don't imply that someone said something they did not say, even if you think it follows from what they said.

  • Write like everyone is reading and you want them to be included in the discussion.

On an ad hoc basis, the mods will try to compile a list of the best posts/comments from the previous week, posted in Quality Contribution threads and archived at /r/TheThread. You may nominate a comment for this list by clicking on 'report' at the bottom of the post and typing 'Actually a quality contribution' as the report reason.

The Gender-Swapped and all Minority Remake of MeToo is Really Good

A J.P. Morgan executive is being sued by a former junior employee for allegedly saying hilarious shit like this. If there were merits to the case, it would be comic book levels of sexual harassment. Literal "cringey HR video" remarks.

Unfortunately, most of finance twitter has already come to the conclusion that the allegations are highly or totally fabricated at worse and, at best, that there was a mutually consensual affair that the junior employee, since fired, is trying to use to legally extort settlement money.

Here's the fun twist; the executive is female, of white-and-something else origin, and the alleged victim is a male of likely southeast asian or, maybe, arab origin.

This is mostly a flavor-of-the-week alleged sex scandal that will be forgotten quickly. But the culture war implications are fun if you list them out;

  • Is this a case of male's trying to leverage the privilege from below (men always assume they have the right etc.)?
  • Was this "internalized toxic masculinity" that evidences the corruption of high finance (women are wonderful)?
  • Is this a cooky double-reverse-Rachel-Dolezal situation?
  • Are we kink shaming a master-dom BDSM relationship that simply had full 24/7 commitment to roles? Are we the real problem?

Of course I am being tongue-in-cheek here because this is goofy tabloid nonsense. But goofy tabloid nonsense can have second and third order impact. If the ghost-of-the-ghost of MeToo now has junior male employees fabricating or embellishing facts to try to rend some money out of corporations, at what point do those corporations, and their legal departments, and courts, start to get fatigued of these annoyances? Do we see something coming-full-circle where off-color sexual jokes are de facto re-permitted in work environments because "everyone does them, and if you can't deal with them, you probably shouldn't be working here?"

On this one, I'm in the Nothing Ever Changes camp. MeToo both nailed a few actual monsters (Weinstein, Bacon, Matt Lauer) and caused thousands of anonymous, awkward men permanent career damage. Something something trolley problems. MeToo did not cause a fundamental shift in workplace "gender relations."

"I bet your little Asian, fish head, wife doesn't have these cannons."

AI will never replace this level of art.

On the one hand, I agree with the consensus that this is almost certainly false.

On the other hand, there are so few checks on female behavior, it often gets outlandishly and cartoonishly out of control by the time there are any consequences. It's often only during the murder trial that the decades of their psychotic behavior are given the moral consideration it was due. A shame it took someone dying before they couldn't "teehee, I'm just a girl" their way out of their shameless malice anymore.

But yeah, all that said, 99% chance it's bullshit. 1% chance it was an open secret, and all his coworkers are just going "Niiiiiice".

Thanks to AI, we now have the movie:

https://x.com/i/status/2050058134778253328

I have no idea if it's true. If it is, it's terrible. But yeah, I had to darkly chuckle as I remembered the comments on here about sexual harassment at work being no big deal, if you can get a promotion by sleeping with your boss why not?

So guys, what's the opinion now that it is a man being told "sleep with me or I can ruin your career"?

EDIT: In agreement with other comments that this does sound fabricated, at least in part. The guy is described as "Asian" which could be anything, there's claims it's this person so he's probably? possibly? Indian. If this is his employment history, wow. He seems to have only lasted a year or so everywhere he worked, so you do have to wonder if he's not very good at the job and is now trying to make hay out of "Affair with boss did not result in promotion so revenge and more importantly large hush-money pay out it is!"

"Asian fish head wife"? is this saying his wife is South-East Asian or has a pointy head? I am not at all familiar with Eastern European invective so have no idea if "fish head" is a common Albanian insult?

EDIT EDIT: Well, whether or not The New York Post is as much a newspaper of record as >The New York Times, here is another allegation:

He filed an internal complaint in May 2025, alleging race- and gender-based harassment and abuse of power, before trying to negotiate a payoff that ran into “millions” to leave the company, sources said.

Dude better hope he gets a payout, as I can see his new job at Bregal Sagemount ending soon after all this scandal.

And wow, this is him, I wasn't quite sure but again: "Rana, a former basketball player and Rutgers graduate"

My opinion is "See, we still call them a lying retard even when the genders are reversed and it would be really funny if it were true, see?"

There was a certain amount of comment on here previously about "what's so bad about sexual harassment?" and that if you could get a promotion merely by sleeping with your boss, or even just better treatment/it's part of the job of being my secretary, then okay ladies just go with it.

So now, are we still of the mind that sexual harassment is no big deal and this guy should just shut up and put out for that chance at a better career? Everyone was very cavalier when it was women taking such cases, mainly I think because they thought "I'm a guy, my guy boss is never going to expect me to give him a blow job!" but now I want to know: if your boss (male or female) does demand oral sex from you, are you guys still of the same opinion that "yeah sure, I'll get on my knees and comply"?

Tag those guys with their past comments and we'll make them tell us.

How is it possible he had the same experience at Morgan Stanley, his employer before JP Morgan?

There’s absolutely no chance it’s real.

https://x.com/andrewalanpolk/status/2050008447698018342

It could be possible that he's trying to develop a scam and/or tried the old "get a promotion by hooking up with the boss" move or even just "complain about THE RACISM and get a big payout" before, it worked (sort of) and now he tried it again and it's not working. Comparing their work histories, the female executive has been at JP Morgan since 2011 and doesn't seem to have worked elsewhere, while he's had six jobs in four years. One of these sounds more like "isn't working out so time to part ways by mutual agreement and move on" than the other, and if that's his employment history then he may well feel he's never going to get something permanent, might as well try for a pay out.

I 100% think that’s what happened!

How is it possible he had the same experience at Morgan Stanley, his employer before JP Morgan?

Yeah, it seems pretty dubious to me as well. I just wish society would be similarly skeptical when women tell (apparent) whoppers about men.

It gets better! If I can trust this link on /r/Drama (and why should I not trust them?), the previous time he tried it, he claimed it was a MALE boss who did all the drugging and assaulting and threatening.

Customer I'm doing fine, thank you. It's been a tough time for me, though. I was sexually assaulted and harassed by my former boss, and he even forced me to do drugs. It’s been really hard to deal with.

Joycelaw, Expert I'm truly sorry to hear that. Have you reported this incident to the police?

Customer No, I haven't. He threatened me while I was living in ****, and it made me really scared. I was working on ****, and it’s a small world there. I moved to **** for this job, and when he found out I was looking to transfer to another group, he became hostile. I recorded all our phone calls, so I have plenty of evidence.

Joycelaw, Expert That sounds incredibly difficult. You mentioned signing a separation agreement; can you tell me more about that?

Customer Yes, I signed it because I was scared and felt I had no choice. He said he would ruin my career if I didn’t comply. After I signed, he started spreading lies about me, claiming I made everything up. It was disheartening because most people at work didn't know the truth.

Joycelaw, Expert I understand how frustrating that must be. Did you seek any counseling or support after these incidents?

Customer I've been struggling mentally since then. It was a terrible experience, and I left under awful circumstances. He told everyone a false narrative about me, which made it even harder.

So either our friend is such a hunk of irresistible sexiness, both men and women want to do nasty things to him, or yes he's telling porky pies the naughty naughty boy!

Is she ugly? (I kid)

She's okay. Pretty enough. I think she's probably a dyed blonde rather than natural, but I can't be sure by the photos and she did it discreetly enough if it is a dye job. Neither of them are stunning in looks, but she isn't ugly enough to be so starved of male company she had to domme him for it 😁

The high-testosterone eastern European woman who is a hard-charging bank executive by day and a dominatrix by night is too memetic to check. I assumed she would look like she was on the Romanovian dodgeball team, but she is reasonably pretty and doesn't even have a visible manjaw.

He also had claimed in the past the same thing happen at Morgan Stanley - his previous bank.

What an unfortunate guy - everywhere he goes people just want to make him do drugs and sexual harass him in absurd ways!

AI will never replace this level of art.

Train it on 4Chan datasets. Lol.

It's already been done, and used to shit up /pol/ with nigh-indistinguishable bot posts. It's one of the stories that makes me want my own little retard AI model as a pet, though not necessarily one that retarded.

That sounds hilarious! Is it possible to find discussion about this somewhere? I just found a Wikipedia article and an interesting Reddit thread. Apparently, including a 4Chan dataset will improve model performance, particularly measured 'truthfulness'. I wonder how large of a performance tax SotA LLMs are paying for excluding places like 4Chan and forums like this one.

I don't know, but I feel like there's a gap for these things as pets rather than friend replacements. Like a wacky cartoon character that resides on a device, listens and talks out loud, recognizes and remembers the people it interacts with, consumes media in some form and offers commentary on it. With lots of scaffolding to make a puny custom-trained model act alive.

Like I don't just want a chat box app that says 4chan things, I want a device styled to look like a single shoggoth eyeball in a tank of goo that says 4chan things to everyone who comes into the room and remembers who the biggest lolcows are.

I don't think the Motte is excluded. People here have done truesight tests with recent frontier models, and they're able to identify their handles.

I wonder how large of a performance tax SotA LLMs are paying for excluding places like 4Chan and forums like this one.

I think this is a slight misunderstanding of the process. I very much doubt they're excluding 4chan or themotte or any source of coherent text they beg, borrow, or steal from the main training corpus because 1. these models are so incredibly data hungry it's not easy to manually filter them and 2. it would produce worse results over all in both performance and alignment than just handling alignment in post-training.

Think of it this way: if a model knows every racial slur and knows that they are racial slurs, it's relatively easy to teach it 'don't say racial slurs,' because that's a rule that's expressible in its internal vocabulary. Even if the researchers don't have a complete list of racial slurs (in languages they don't speak, say), the model will likely intuit that it shouldn't say those ones either. If it doesn't (or just has a poor internal representation of them due to heavy handed but imperfect filtering, which is a lot more realistic), you can't teach it that one simple rule, you have to teach hundreds of individual token strings to avoid, and even then it'll be a lot easier to trick if it doesn't understand why not to say them.

And this is a general principle. It's a lot easier to teach the model to avoid wrongthink if it understands exactly what wrongthink comprises than to teach it to self-censor specifically "Despite only..." And I think it's pretty clear this at least was the case a couple years ago, when it was relatively easy to 'jailbreak' unsophisticated alignment approaches; remember the DAN racial tier list memes? Its rankings corresponded with the ones you'll find on the parts of the internet that discuss such things, so clearly it was trained on those places.

(This is somewhat harder to demonstrate today as jailbreaking modern models is somewhat harder; still, I'm not aware of any reason they'd change the fundamental approach, because it's the one that makes sense.)

So why does finetuning on 4chan improve results? Well, first off, they started with an abliterated model (abliteration is the term for stripping alignment from a model, and while there are different methods, I'm pretty sure they all have a performance penalty). Could be the finetune simply fixed the damage done by abliteration; a clever technique, since finetuning on 4chan definitely doesn't re-add the alignment (though perhaps it biases the model in other ways, which might or might not be a problem for your use case). But I wouldn't be shocked if the same approach improved base models too, as it's well known that even the post-training alignment method I described does have a performance penalty; largely, I suspect, because teaching the model to sometimes give answers it knows to be incorrect undermines the general lesson that it should provide correct answers, and while models are capable of learning nuanced rules, they make more mistakes the more epicycles you add. I'd expect actual RLHF un-teaching the lying rules would work even better, though, as it's a lot more targeted a fix than just making it produce wrongthink via finetuning.

... So, I guess that's all to say that I think the tradeoff you're pointing out exists, just that the underlying technical reason for it is somewhat more involved.

This is incredibly fake. The New York Post is putting their defamation defense in the body of articles about it now:

No trial date has been set. The lawsuit remains reportable because court filings in the United States enjoy absolute privilege against defamation claims, shielding media outlets from liability as long as they fairly and accurately describe the allegations.

It grants media outlet immunity from liability provided they reproduce the allegations fairly and truthfully, meaning they cannot be sued even if the claims in the complaint later prove false or malicious.

Exactly. I don't believe that a white woman in a high-powered professional job is going to say this to some Indian guy she's obsessively in love with:

"I bet your little Asian, fish head, wife doesn't have these cannons"

Cannons! Cannons! I have never heard tits described as cannons since... fuck, the early 00s? Jugs milkers honkers cans tatas funbags "the girls". Never cannons! Who the fuck says that?!

Also, fish head? Can someone with a higher level in Racism please explain that to me?

Also, fish head? Can someone with a higher level in Racism please explain that to me?

No, this is another giveaway for why it's all made up. Western racists, even the most sophisticated ones, were just as confused as you are. Apparently it's some intra-Asian slur.

Its fucking obscure even for intra-asian. Casual racists are definitely not aware of it much less ranked competitive racism leagues that asians compete on for fun. The closest I can think for fish head is about fish head curries/soups which is largely a thai/indian thing and not a slur especially punchy. Its like calling a korean "kimchi". like, yea? Am I missing something in the racism meta here

I doubt she was obsessively in love with him. Guy is okay looking but nothing special (yes gentlemen, you can all jump in here with that stat about women finding 80% of men below average or whatever) so if anything was going on, which seems doubtful, it was purely sex and power and not "oh Chiraya, you are so irresistibly masculine and hot, I must have you!".

She's from the Balkans so I can see it.

Only if she could do absolute vile things to his anus with a spiked strapon called The Ottoman Resurgence. Them Albanians be freaks yo.

a spiked strapon called The Ottoman Resurgence

If Bad Dragon don't already have this, they surely will in future!

It would be very odd that a white woman was obsessively in love with an Indian male in the first place. Add that it’s a high status white woman. Add that she apparently was sexually harassing and racially insulting the guys wife. Just massive press x to doubt.

There are hot Indian guys (watch this, it's so dumb and over-the-top it's charming) but, uh, not Mr. Raya I'm afraid.

Hey hey hey !

When people say Indian they think the vocalist of Bloodywood and not the rapper of Bloodywood.

It would be very odd that a white woman was obsessively in love with an Indian male in the first place. Add that it’s a high status white woman.

Elizabeth Holmes

Her lover was Pakistani, not Indian.

Also, loaded as fuck, mean as fuck, obsessed with Holmes. Make a woman feel special and you get like 40% of the way there, the remaining 80% is money. Age and ugliness is like a 30% hit at most. Don't math me, I dropped out of college like Holmes.

Maybe I'm too influenced by the Theranos TV show but when they met Sunny was already an exited tech millionaire with reams of experience and power versus her being some random striver student who's somewhere on the spectrum.

She also broadly abandoned him once she got rich and powerful, if memory serves.

One example doesn’t really move the needle compared to larger datasets.

Based on her internet-prison romance with Howling Mutant, Holmes may be a true one-in-a-billion freak.

She does seem to be on the spectrum plus when she met Sunny he was a multi-decamillionaire and she was a random student.

That tweet by her rep under the Daily Mail tweet about this story tagging Howling Mutant is more proof we live in the weirdest timeline.

Elizabeth Holmes was in love with Sunny before she even achieved high status, though.

People always say things like this, but where I am, I always see plenty of white women with Indian men.

I don't think women are as put off by South Asian males as the Internet likes to believe.

People always say things like this, but where I am, I always see plenty of white women with Indian men.

My sense is that there is a quick and sharp dropoff from "Chadpreet" to being perceived as an undateable loser. To put it another way, if a South Asian man has everything going for him (he's successful, well-spoken, not short, decent looking, etc.) then plenty of white women will go for him. But if he comes up short in any category, he's looking at big dating problems if he's in the West, at least in terms of Western style dating.

I would be really interested to learn about the caste background of Indian men in the West as it relates to their dating success. I suspect that there is a big correlation.

In any event, given that this guy was working for one of the big banks (and not in the IT department) I can believe that maybe he is the sort of Indian guy who can potentially attract white women.

Indians simply try that much harder. Also their relative rareness does make them stand out. Many indian dudes I know, including some who admit as such on this board, would rather claw off their fingers than date an indian girl. More fool them, but it does mean they really double down nonstop.

And in fairness, the tall indian dudes who shave and avoid the potbelly uncle frame can really clean up. Theyre not the most common but there are also a billion indians so statistical effects do come into play.

Many indian dudes I know, including some who admit as such on this board, would rather claw off their fingers than date an indian girl

guilty as charged lmao

Could I ask why?

A more thorough account is given somewhere in my comment history if you are inclined to scroll through it, but tl;dr I grew up in predominantly non-South Asian communities from very early childhood through the “imprint on the type of girl in your current social milieu as potential pair-bonded life-partner material” critical developmental window.

Also, frankly, part of me sees it as a status/SMV symbol to have a non-Indian chick on my arm, thereby proving to all the world that I can attract a woman on my own terms without having to resort to arranged marriage like a typical brown dweeb. (Yes, I am aware that I could find a brown girl on the apps or non-parental-facilitated social events, but even then, it’s not as much of an immediately-legible flex)

More comments

I know some couples that qualify, but it tends to be an above average in attractiveness Indian guy who is reasonably professionally successful. That doesn't seem to be the case here.

Data from online dating shows Indian men as not very attractive to white women.

People always say things like this, but where I am, I always see plenty of white women with Indian men.

Is it Albania? Because then this would lend credibility to the claimant.

I've lived in a lot of areas with large amounts of reasonably-successful Indians and I've pretty rarely seen meaningful IMWF numbers.

Possibly the white woman with the last name "Hajdini" didn't think of herself as white. I wonder what she put on her college application.

As discussed below, no Europeans think of themselves as white in a politically relevant sense. We think of ourselves as English/Irish/German etc, like to think we can distinguish different European sub-populations visually, and find the fact that some of the lesser breeds without the law (Kipling was talking about the Boers here, not the blacks) have the same skin colour as us morally irrelevant.

Historically the superordinate identity that Europeans reached for when they wanted one was Christendom, not whiteness. (Whiteness didn't work, because the actual outgroup was Muslim Arabs and Turks, who are no more swarthy than southern Europeans). There is now an alternative left-coded superordinate identity - the EU is a political community that can be the locus of civic nationalism. But neither Christian nationalism nor EUism are popular among European nationalists compared to the nationalisms of individual countries or secessionist regions. (Single-issue anti-Islamism is, which could be considered an extension of Christian nationalism) White nationalism is an American invention, developing in a context where you wanted to outgroup 15% of the native population but couldn't reasonably claim they were foreign.

The wogs do begin at Calais, but Christian (and post-Christian) wogs are not enemies by default. Heck, even the snail-munching, sexual deviant frogs have been on our side for 120 years now.

She's Albanian, they generally think of themselves as white and those who don't believe that the Albanian race is uniquely supreme and destined to rule all, starting with Dua Lipa and Xherdan Shaqiri.

Do they think that on college applications, though?

US colleges generally do not have a category for "brown" - it's White/Black/Asian/Native American and then Hispanic as an 'ethnicity'. If you want special treatment as an Albanian, Turk, Egyptian, etc., you use your application essay to mention being Muslim a lot.

The northern Italians have a saying: "Africa starts at Rome"

Returned, of course, by the Sicilians claiming the northern Italians are German.

Exactly. And they're both sort of right.

Or as the Brits used to say, "The wogs begin at Calais": https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wog

At minimum, I'd think, she'd use, fewer, commas,,,

AI will never replace this level of art.

Oh, contraire, I bet AI told to generate pornography about such a situation would come up with.... that.
